Big movies mean tons of merchandise. It’s inevitable. Action figures must be made regardless of how much sense it makes. So clearly, if Space Jam required action figures, then Avatar, the movie by James Cameron that is exploding everyone’s heads with visuals and everyone’s hearts with joy, darn well has a series of action figures for it. But are they any good?
The Nitty-Gritty Truth
Sure, why not. They aren’t terrible, but there are two versions to look at here. There are the “good” versions of the action figures, the bigger versions that include a total of three characters, making them somewhat pointless as a “series” of action figures and rather just good additions to the vast imaginative toyland adventures your kids should be having anyway. But there are also the “bad” versions, the ones you’ll see most and like least. I didn’t even have to look at them for very long before coming to these conclusions either. It just sort of becomes apparent when you look at them for yourself.
Confession time: I haven’t seen Avatar. I’ll see it soon enough, most likely by the time this article is posted, but as of writing this here review I haven’t seen the actual source material. I still know enough about the movie to know what is cool and what isn’t cool. The coolest thing? Definitely the RDA Scorpion Gunship. Why? Because the thing is a freaking heli-jet called a “Scorpion Gunship.” I don’t need to have seen the movie to know that whatever that is it makes for a good toy.

This is an RDA Scorpion Gunship. Okay, anything that flies is instantly in my "I Like It" category.
But the actual figures are the problem. The good series, as I’m calling them, the ones that are taller, are pretty solid and fun for playing with. Like I said though, there isn’t a ton to choose from, so you’ll inevitably need to have a bright imagination to fit these Avatar characters into some sort of story involving the Transformers or the Ninja Turtles. But at least you are getting something cool.
The smaller toys just look cheap, even though they aren’t in the truest use of the word. You’ll plunk some dough for a toy that looks weird, and part of that may just be the way the actual characters appear. They have that strange freakish skinniness to the joints that instantly makes me think “This is a toy” and not, “Oh cool, a new toy!” There’s a definite difference at work there. Even worse for me especially since I haven’t seen the movie, I can’t tell the difference between the characters since they look either like “Weird Blue Cat-Like Creatures” and “G.I. Joe Rejects.” As far as I can see, one character has a bow and arrow while another has a double bow and arrow thing, or something like that. Yeah, you see the importance of the RDA Scorpion Gunship now?
So I’m keeping this one short but sweet. The new Avatar toys aren’t entirely bad considering everything about them. They do look cool and have some cool things that go with them, but I can’t see the appeal of the toys since the movie seems to be for adults anyway and the toys themselves aren’t very different from one another. You’ll see a ton of these in the discount bins in a few months since all the stores have been buying these in excessive amounts. If your kid wants one, wait just a bit and then snatch them up when they’ve been clearanced to 50% off or more.

October 20, 2009--This moonraker, designed by Paul's Robotics in Worcester, Massachusetts, was awarded first prize in the third annual Regolith Excavation Challenge, held October 18 at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California. The remote-controlled robot took home top honors by lifting 965 pounds (437 kilograms) of faux regolith--the fine, powdery lunar topsoil--into a container within 30 minutes. A testament to tinkerers, the competition recognizes moon-soil excavators that are sturdy enough to scoop pounds of regolith, powerful enough to move across the moon's surface, and light enough to maneuver easily, say organizers at the California Space Authority, the competition's nonprofit sponsor.Such soil-hauling machines will be needed in the future as humans prepare to build a lunar outpost on the moon, according to spokesperson Eric Daniels. In addition to helping with construction, astronauts will likely need to excavate regolith to harvest useful materials such as oxygen and hydrogen."The hope is that through the excavation designs, someone will strike upon an innovation or new concept that revolutionizes power and energy requirements for excavation," Daniels said.

Today, the robot is one of those predictions that has come to pass, but only in that "Well, sort of" kind of way. We have thousands of robots in our factories turning out everything from cars to electrical tooth flossers. Japan is positively stinking with them (robots, not tooth flossers). Not to mention all the mechakaiju giant robots that stomp Tokyo periodically, if Japanese cinema is anything to go by.
But these robots aren't what we had in mind. The robots of today are all basically descendants of Unimate; the one-armed industrial robot of the '60s. They're programmable machines that carry out a specific sequence of tasks time after time without error or deviation. For example, a robotic palletizer in the packaging industry. They're incredible machines and the latest models incorporate a remarkable range of sensors and artificial intelligence software, but to the uninitiated they look very little different from the other factory machines that surround them. Not like this illustration of a factory humming with anthropomorphic workers busily handling lathes and stamping mills.
Not that robots of the future were supposed to be just serving drinks and building Twonkies. They had grimmer duties when their fleshy masters thrust blasters into their metal hands and sent them off to war.
Take this lot, for example, from The Defenders by Phillip K. Dick. In this story, the Earth has been devastated by decades of atomic war and the human race lives in huge underground bunkers while their robot soldiers battle it out on the surface. Turns out that the robots just waited until the last human hit the bunkers and then the lot of them downed rifles, kicked back, and whipped up a batch of daiquiris with no one the wiser.
To coin a phrase, ten out of ten for style.
One of the strangest things that I discovered as I researched this section is that it is rather different than other aspects of Future Past. When it came to spaceships, aeroplanes, cars, and so forth, there was no end to speculative designs. It was easy to find Robert Goddard's spaceship design, an idea for an aeroplane with circular wings, or atomic-powered tanks, but robots were surprisingly thin on the ground, which is remarkable when you consider how ubiquitous they were supposed to be in the future landscape. Why so few blueprints or even projected views of what the mechanical man of tomorrow would look like? There were some, as we'll see, but nothing like the torrent of Moon landers and atomic pens. Given how so many vastly underestimated the problems of actually building a robot, it's hard to say if this dearth is due to having too little to go on or overweening confidence that metal men would come tumbling off the shelves any day now.
Whatever the reason, we still developed a very clear idea of what robots would be like in the 21st century, but in this case the source was largely that of pulp fiction and Hollywood rather than visionaries of the engineering world. Perhaps nature abhors even a speculative vacuum

Every genre has its supporting cast and Future Past had its as well. Just as the Western had Red Indians, mad scientists had hunchbacks, fairy stories had, well, fairies, and Tolkien had Hobbits, the future had robots. They were that essential bit of the cast that immediately told you "Ah ha! We're in the future! You can't get those at Woolies!" Robots were the mechanical Jeeves' that stood at your elbow and knew instinctively whether you wanted Scotch or Irish Whiskey. They were the villains ever ready to revolt against their creators. They were the faithful dogs ever by your side. They were the deus ex machina of the plot waiting to happen, and by the time the second Star Trek series came about they were deus ex machinaing all over the place.

Mechanical men, automata, golems, homunculi; these have been a part of history and folklore since the days of the ancient Greeks when Hephaestus built a pair of golden maidens to help him get about his workshop. There were dolls that could draw or write. There was a famous machine in the shape of a Turk that supposedly played chess. In literature there were machine men from the pen of Ambrose Bierce and on the silver screen Harry Houdini was battling a mechanical villain in 1913. But these were usually little more than toys, curiosities, or stage dressing.
Many writers place the origins of the modern robot with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I've never quite seen that myself, unless it has something to do with whole Creator and Created relationship thing. Even then, what with all the fallings out between Frankenstein and his monster, the villagers with pitchforks, and the yelling, and the hurting , and the biting, I see it more as an allegory of parenthood. Besides, the monster in the story isn't a machine, but a thing of flesh and blood clobbered out of dead bodies

Activision has announced an official release date for the first Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen DLC, "Character and Map Pack Plus," along with screenshots of the new content. Transformers fans will be happy to see some old school robots making a return -- for a fee.
The add-on will include numerous "Generation One" characters, as well as those from the Michael Bay movies. Buyers will also get three new skins and maps. Be advised some of the new playable Transformers may be restricted to single- or multiplayer. Below, you will find the new screenshots along with full character and map descriptions. Be advised, this DLC be pimpin'.
Expect the "Character and Map Pack Plus" DLC to hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Store on August 27, where it can be purchased for $9.99 USD or 800 Microsoft Points.
New Characters
• G1 Optimus Prime
o Primary Weapon: Laser Rifle – This weapons functions the same as Movie Optimus’ Dual Laser Rifles, however it has increased damage and slightly increased ROF since there is only one cannon.o Secondary Weapon: Shell Cannon – Functions the same as Movie Optimus’ Dual Shell Cannons, again with increased damage and ROF to compensate for not dual wielding.o Melee Weapon: Energy Axe – Just as it was in the original series, Optimus deploys an energy axe to melee his enemies.o Special Ability: Valiant Leader – Same as Movie Optimus (Damage reduction, retain at least a sliver of health, increased melee damage), but now turns G1 Optimus Gold (a la “The Golden Lagoon”)
• G1 Megatron
o PW: Lightning Gun – Works the same as Movie Megatron.o SW: Dark Matter Beam – Works the same as Movie Megatron.o MW: Energy Ball and Chain – Melee weapon from the original G1 series. Crackles with energy.o SA: Fusion Arm Cannon – Works the same as Movie Megatron.
• G1 Starscream
o PW: Dual Null Rays – Rapid fire weapon with G1 inspired FX and sounds. o Dual Homing Missiles – Similar to Movie Starscream’s missiles, except you fire two bursts of three at the same time. Damage is lower to compensate for increased missile barrage.o MW: Fistso SA: Megatron Blast – A single shot, high damage blast similar to Megatron’s fusion arm cannon. When performed, a transformed G1 Megatron in gun form will pop out of Starscream’s back and charge up, then fire a massive laser blast.
• G1 Sunstorm
o PW: Dual Null Rays –Same as G1 Starscream’s PW.o SW: Flamethrowers – Dual Flamethrowers. Will cause sustained damage on enemies as well as overheat their weapons, but you must be very close to be effective with these.o MW: Fistso SA: Thermal Wave – Will do a radial blast that will overheat the weapons of any nearby enemies. Great to use in hit and run situations, leaving your enemies overheated and subject to the incoming fire from teammates.

• Jazz
o PW: Slug Repeater – Fast firing machine gun type weapon. Good accuracy and decent range.o SW: Plasma Crescent Launcher – Boomerang shaped energy missile that will aggressively track to locked on enemies (automatically locks on like the Seeker missiles). Great for taking down air targets.o MW: Fists – Jazz works with what he’s got.o SA: Super Speed – Increases Jazz’s movement speed in all forms, allowing for faster travel on foot or in vehicle, and faster melee attacks.
• Sideswipe
o PW: Pulse Pistols – Rapid fire weapon that shoots big bolts of energy. Not as fast as Jazz’s repeater, but does more damage per shot.o SW: Proximity Mines – Can plant multiple mines on any surface that will automatically explode when an enemy comes within range. These can be shot directly at enemies so they explode on contact, or can be used to booby trap control points or main areas of combat. Will explode on their own after a certain amount of time or if more mines (above the deployable limit) are fired.o MW: Arm Blades – Sideways makes use of the dual forearm blades he possess.o SA: Blade Strike – Single strike, homing melee attack that does high damage. Not a 1 hit kill like Megatron’s Fusion Arm Cannon, but brutally effective none the less.
• Soundwave
o PW: Charged Pulse Blast – Charged cannon that does high damage and charges to full power very quickly. Requires skill to use properly, but rewards good aim.o SW: Sonic Disruptor Waves – Rapid fire sonic energy blasts that do minimal damage, but slow the target down when they are hit continually with this weapon.o MW: Fistso SA: Dual Deployables – Depending on his form, SW can deploy one of two different deployables. When his special is used in vehicle form, he will deploy the Jammer Pod which will fly up over the battlefield, and fire down on enemies below, while also cloaking all allies from the enemy’s radar. When his special is used in robot or weapon form, he will deploy the AOE Pod, which will continually smash the ground and damage any enemies who try close in (excellent for defending a control point).
• Jetfire (MP Only)
o PW: Ancient Cybetronian Pistol – Energy weapon that fires at a relatively decent rate, but does good damage with each shot. o SW: Energon Wave Cannon – Similar to Grindor’s Energon wave. When fired a slow moving projectile will impact the nearest object in its path, then turn into a energy shockwave that will travel for a set distance. Anyone caught in the shockwave will take a small amount of damage, but also be stunned until a few seconds pass or they take damage from an enemy. Great for immobilizing large enemy groups on control points.o MW: Fistso SA: Radar Scanner – When activated will reveal all nearby enemies on radar for a limited time.
• Aerialbot (SP Only) - All weapons and abilities same as Movie Character (this character is now selectable in certain SP missions)

Maps Info
Courtyard – Fast paced East Coast map that focuses on a heavily contested center action point. This key strategic area allows for views of the entire map as well as control of the high ground surrounding the middle courtyard and its perimeter. Flying characters are able to utilize the open skies and tall skyscrapers to quickly get to advantageous positions, but ground based characters can make use of numerous back alleys to flank around the sides of the map and attack from unprotected angles.
Hillside – A tiered map in a dense urban area of Cairo. Varied height sections on the map make for multiple small arenas of combat, while allowing sneaky players to move throughout the level virtually un-noticed under the cover the surrounding buildings. A central marketplace provides a high point to get views of almost the entire level, but the maze like street layout and numerous buildings mean that you will have to hunt your enemies down in the alleys of this ruined city.
Sandstorm – A very fast paced map that takes place in a smaller section of Cairo. Mostly populated with low level buildings and an open central area, combat on this map is fast and frenetic, with near instantaneous action as there is almost no place to hide. Flying characters can quickly hover above the map for near un-obstructed views of almost the entire map, but this also leaves them vulnerable to ground fire from almost every angle.

My company has recently prohibited copying official information on USB flash drives. We in IT dept need to monitor any unauthorised use. We cannot disable USB ports as mouse, scanners, printers & plotters are also used. Are there any softwares available to monitor usage/copying of data on USB drives by any employee?Acne Treatment
