Unique Extreme Racing Car 0

Robo tech | 5:06 AM | ,

Peugeot XRC is a concept extreme racing car, perhaps Tiago Aiello was inspired by racing remote controlled cars when he was a kid, just like all little boys are crazy about it. This badass car has been designed to run on just about any terrain, deserts, snow, rocks, mud and more, you name it. The overall body design imitates what you usually see in RC cars so it’s the real version of it, ergonomics with impact absorption structure, stylish and virtually indestructible.

A Car With A Boat “Pod” Attached to It 0

Robo tech | 8:04 AM | ,

Buick Ula Amphibious Vehicle by Josh Henry was inspired by two talented designers Melissa Sikorski and Carrie Fodor presentation during Josh internship at Sea Ray Boats. The presentation was about women and boating and how to make women to get more involved in recreational boating. From this point, Josh Henry wanted to design a version of his recreational boat that is less intimidating for beginners by combining a car and a trailer into a single unit with a boat “pod” attached to it.
Most people can’t afford to buy both a car and a boat at the same time, but if they choose Buick Ula Amphibious Vehicle, they’ll get both transportation, the process of deciding need vs want can be eliminated.
Designer : Joshua Henry

Joshua Henry’s own words:
I wanted the design to be unique. I really thought about the surfaces and how they interact with one another. I wanted a lot of the details to be more subtle and make the vehicle much more approachable. One challenge from the beginning was how to make the two pieces (trailer and boat parts) cohesive and not only fit together, but look good both when they are apart as well as together.
I really liked the idea of utilizing those gaps between the pieces and how they fit together and really design them in a way that there’s a design detail and not try to just cover them up. One thing I did was added LED lighting that really emphasizes the part lines and really adds a lot of dynamic energy to the overall look and feel of the vehicle.
The overall theme I imagined and the picture I created in my head from the very beginning was a woman living in a modern world in the glamorous Miami. Buick Ula Amphibious Vehicle allows her to have the freedom that she desires by utilizing her vehicle on land and water as she pleases for both pleasure and transportation. Living in Miami, I also imagined the use for night life or just driving down the road in south beach in the sun. When I thought about adding the lighting on the vehicle, this was where I really just visualized Buick Ula Amphibious Vehicle, driving down south beach at night by all the clubs with the dramatic aqua colored lighting pouring onto the strip. Very appropriate for Miami.

Top 10 Technologies of Future Cars 0

Robo tech | 3:49 AM | ,

No.10 Organically Grown Cars

Biome, the new Mercedes-Benz concept, could merit an entire Top 10 feature itself.  We’ll limit ourselves to highlights, like its bio-fiber cloth body. The plan calls for panels harvested from organically-grown, genetically-modified trees. Cool stuff in theory, but even our horticultural illiterate imaginations question the ramp-up time and sheer volume needed for full production without depletion. Our guess is by 2050, adaptation could include trim pieces and limited body panels on existing models for better weight distribution and a lowered center of gravity.

No.9 Transparent Instrument Panels

OLED technology is currently an expensive tech with unique applications, but as with most technology, the cost goes down exponentially with time. The Kia Pop concept takes a unique approach to the dashboard with a transparent OLED panel that gives a better range of vision (obviously -- you can see through it) than other dashboards. This is the kind of technology that is usually exhibited on halo models first and then trickles down to mass-produced compacts and sedans. Given the rapid improvement in OLED technology, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this tech in new cars by 2015.

No.8 Electric rickshaw

This seems the result of a Mercedes designer with Seinfeld on the brain. Kramer and Newman’s idea of the homeless pulling rickshaws has evolved into the Maybach DRS concept for personal transportation. We should probably be grateful it wasn’t based on "The Contest" episode. Anyway, this "urban sombrero" seems like a nice blend of personal city transportation and isolation. On the other hand, it would be a two-wheeled coffin if a taxi ran a red light and T-boned you. While corporate lawyers fret over this, don’t expect to see one before 2075.

No.7 Vegetable-based components

Honda’s Air concept is not the only air-powered idea out there, but its vegetable-based body panels give new meaning to “organic design.” Reduced weight would be a major benefit, especially when combined with other weight-saving features like airless urethane tires and glass-reinforced seating panels. These would be great technologies to see on any Honda or Acura model, just probably not on the Air itself (too bad, because it looks like it’d be a blast to drive and the division desperately needs a sports car). If Honda can refine the practice for optimal strength and shape retention, we’d expect to see at least limited production use among existing vehicles by 2030.

No.6 Turbine-electric hybrid power

Jaguar’s C-X75 supercar concept, like the marque’s current lineup, is stunning. What sets this car apart from the rest of the brand -- and most other automobiles -- is revolution in design. An electric motor is at each wheel, drawing from a central lithium-ion battery pack. The C-X75’s party pieces are twin gas turbines. Summon their power and Jaguar claims 3.4-second 0-60 mph blasts and a 205 mph top end. If they can find a way to dissipate the turbines’ massive heat without melting cars behind the C-X75 in traffic, we’d love this car or a green version of the XK to employ this tech by 2025.

No.5 Pure oxygen emissions

Another future vehicle tech highlight of the spacey-but-cool Mercedes Biome is not what it has, but what it doesn’t have: nasty emissions. In this case, all it spews back into the atmosphere is pure oxygen. It’s almost as if the trees used in the car’s body panel construction live on. As hopeful as we are -- and as much as they’d dig it in Los Angeles -- we can’t imagine it in production Benzes before 2050.

No.4 Energy-producing body panels

The world is full of odd couples, incomprehensible pairings that somehow seem to work. Toyota believes enough in such matches that they’re putting their name on it: the Nori (Japanese for seaweed). And unlike Audi's unintended French double-entendre with the E-tron, Toyota’s naming is deliberate. Seaweed is used in the conjoined carbon fiber body/chassis, which is also embedded with solar panels. The combined body and chassis format is incredibly strong and light, and with the addition of the solar cells, actually generates supplemental power. We doubt the Nori will be parked next to Corollas in dealer showrooms, but we bet a derivative of this technology could reach future Prius models by 2020.

No.3 In-wheel magnetic drive system

Future vehicle tech suggests tomorrow’s electric vehicles will feature multiple motors, even one at each wheel. Concepts like Jaguar’s aforementioned C-X75 have this, but the Nissan iV is unique. Look beyond the spider silk and ivy composite body (hence, the iV name) and witness the concentric hub-less motors in each wheel. This patented Nissan technology also handles steering and suspension duties. Weight and moving parts are cut down in the process -- very good things indeed. The 2035 street-date mentioned in the vehicle description seems plausible for the feature, even if the iV itself does not.

No.2 Interchangeable carbon fiber body panels

Co-winner of the L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge with the Cadillac Aera, the Smart 454 WWT (Weight Watch Technologies) overplayed the cutesy card with endless references to their Smart Granny Robots (SGRs) knitting the carbon fiber body and chassis. Carbon fiber itself is not new, though you’ll pay dearly for a car with any significant amount. Smart aims to make it affordable and features interchangeable body panels to reconfigure the car as needed or desired. If Smart survives and crash testing passes, we bet this could be yours by 2020.

No.1 Air propulsion

There’s nothing wrong with making internal combustion engines more efficient, and efforts to advance EVs are commendable too. Cadillac (yes, Cadillac) goes further still with air propulsion, as proffered on the Aera (Aero + Era). The 2+2 lightweight won the L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge, due in no small part to its style and air propulsion, leading to a theoretical range of 1000 miles on compressed air before refueling. As much as we love today’s hedonistic CTS-V cars, we’d really love to try a Cadillac with the Aera’s future vehicle tech by 2030.

New Hybird cars of 2011 0

Robo tech | 3:03 AM | ,

Look at the future of 2011. Year after year tons of business’s come out with new gadgets and gizmos to try. Car dealerships evolve so much in a year, just like entertainment stores.

If you’ve wondered what might be some of the new inventions of 2011 here are a few of them.

1. One of the most exciting contraptions that you may encounter for 2011 is flying cars.  MIT students from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics have actually succeeded in creating and flying a winged car. This is said to be the wave of the future. The company that is reported to release the space ship looking  cars is called Terrafugia. So be sure to look to the skies in 2011.

2. A new form of hybrid cars will be launched from Toyota. In 2011 you will have the option to buy hybrid minivan. The minivan is recorded to have 7 seats  in it and is a great fuel efficient car. No information on prices have been found yet.

3. In China a new robot is being designed to help kids with autism. The robot is being constructed by University of Hertfordshire. The robot is said to have artificial skin and is suppose to be in a child like form. It is suppose to help kids with autism to help them learn how to socialize better and interact better with their peers.

4. Edible houses are on the list for 2011. These houses are said to be run by wind, rain, sun and garbage. The house is supposed to be comfortable and affordable. Students at the University of Maryland are designing and building the house to be staged in 2011 at the National mall.

These are just a few of the ideas for 2011. They have already started constructing them and getting them ready for selling and research in 2011. I’m sure more inventions will come for 2011.

Next-Generation Porsche 911 0

Robo tech | 4:57 AM |

Porsche is soon to launch its next-generation 911 and as can be seen by these latest spy shots, prototypes for the car appear to be almost complete.

Shown in the least camouflage and from the closest distance yet, the new 911 looks to be just as its predecessors have been: a variation on the classic theme with some modern tweaks. But just as the continuity of looks in previous cars have masked major mechanical changes, so too will the next-gen 911.

These latest shots show the car again almost completely undisguised, and for the first time in colors other than black: yellow and blue.

Earlier came a video of the car also nearly undisguised. We first started seeing test-mules for the 2012 Porsche 911 back in 2008 and soon after, Porsche's former chief of research and development, Wolfgang Dürheimer, revealed some details of what to expect for the new car.

“It will be even more competent, even sexier, even more unique,” Dürheimer said. “The design can of course only be evolutionary, but beneath the skin, almost anything is possible"

The 2012 Porsche 911, known internally as 'project 991', will feature a few radical departures from the 911's long-running classic styling.

The changes are out of necessity more than anything, but they will be noticeable. Pedestrian protection rules in Europe will require a change to the nose section of the car, likely meaning a larger and more collapsible bumper section. The rear of the car will also be changed, but for aerodynamic improvement.

Clear differences between the new model and the current 997 are the more upright headlights, a slightly longer body and side mirrors that are now positioned at the side of the doors and not at the window.

Other new features will include extensive use of lightweight carbon-fiber materials and active aerodynamics, surfaces that react to what the car is doing and how fast it's doing it. Expect adjustable front and rear spoilers, dynamically opening and closing air intakes, and an automatic rear wing.

Reports coming out of Germany claim power in the base Carrera will stand at 345 horsepower from a 3.4-liter boxer engine, downsized 200ccs from the current engine. Step up to the Carrera S, and you’re expected to get a bigger 3.8-liter engine and 395 horsepower.

Solis Solar Powered Vehicle That Contributes Electricity To The City 0

Robo tech | 5:23 AM | ,

The challenge of this project was to create a vehicle that we could park easily in a highly populated area. Solis is a solar powered commuter vehicle features semi-transparent solar panels on doors and roofing to generate electric power which is stored in the battery. Due to its compact size, 2 Solis can be parked in one regular parking space. This will solve the issue of limited parking space without the need to change the parking lot layout. It’s been designed with a retractable power cord where the driver can plug it into the parking meter to provide the city with electricity through its solar panels, thus paying for its parking space. If there’s not enough sunlight, the parking meter acts as a changing station in exchange for payment.
Solis design combines the freedom of motorcycle with the safety and comfort of a car, it offers new and better way of commuting and parking in highly populated areas. Solis utilizes the same wheelbase as a smart car but with a visually lower center of gravity. This way, both passengers are placed in the center of the car, protected by the wheels which will give great protection during a crash. We think this is an innovative vehicle design. Not only Solis is combustion free and takes less space, it is also stylish, eco friendly, and contributes to the city with electricity.
